The remote control has a control unit (10) incorporating a CPU, a keyboard, a display (18), a memory (20) and an RF transmitter (14) as well as a clock generator. Each light is fitted with an RF receiver for the coded signals that switch the light on and off. The receiver can be incorporated into the base of each separate bulb. The user is able to select lights, or groups of lights using programs stored in the memory. The control unit is self contained with a battery and can also incorporate an RF receiver (22) to link with other control units.
