PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quinone-based high energy density liquid active material for a flow battery.SOLUTION: A liquid cathode material, and electrochemical cells and automotive vehicles employing the liquid cathode material, are disclosed. The liquid cathode material includes a quinone as redox active material and a fluoroalkylsulfonyl salt as a charge balancing agent and is characterized by a liquid form of the redox active material regardless of the redox state.
