PURPOSE:To provide the preparation method of a high-activity and high-strength nickel/magnesia catalyst useful for the steam reforming of hydrocarbons and the methanation of synthetic gas. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of a nickel/magnesia (Ni/MgO) catalyst consisting of high-purity, ultrafine particulate monocrystalline magnesia of an average particle size of 100-2000Angstrom (diameter from BET specific surface) and nickel of 0.1-50wt.% of magnesia, the nickel compound, after being supported on the magnesia, is heat-treated to obtain the powder of magnesia carrying nickel oxide. The magnesia powder, after being added with 0.2-3.0wt.% of magnesium stearate, is molded into a desired shape to be heat-treated at 550-800 deg.C in a reducing gas atmosphere. |
