[Also in Division F2] A pinion having integral inner race seatings for mounting in ball bearings comprises a pinion having teeth 11 and, adjacent to the teeth, inner races 13 having radial flanges 13a the diameters of which are greater than the diameter of the roots of the pinion teeth. The pinion is made by forming a blank having the radially flanged inner races 13 and an axial cylindrical portion equal to the length of the pinion teeth and rolling the cylindrical portion between toothed dies to form the teeth. The pinion is made integral with a mounting shaft 12 for mounting in a rack and pinion device, Fig.1 (not shown), suitable for a vehicle steering gear. |
