1327823 Hinge joints CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 21 Aug 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 40381/70 Heading E2F A pre-assembled unitary hinge joint cartridge pivotally connecting a member 10' to a bifurcated member 12' comprises a solid pin 18' having a bushing 20', 22' welded to each end and a third bushing 28 rotatable on the centre of the pin, the bushings being adapted to be press-fitted into axially aligned bores in the members 10', 12'. As shown, the bushings may increase in size from left to right and bushings 20', 22' may be tapered, the cartridge being drawn into a tight fit by a plate 42 engaging the member 12' and a screw 40 passing therethrough and threadedly engaging the pin 18'. A plate 46 attached to the pin 18' by a screw 44 is fixed to the bifurcated member 12' by screws 48 and pins 50 on the plate engage radial grooves on the bushing 22'. Seals 30' and spacers 32' may be provided. A trifurcated member may be pivotally connected to a bifurcated member by two such cartridges axially aligned, Fig. 3 (not shown). Lifetime lubricant may be retained in a reservoir 36' or in a reservoir in an end bushing 20', 22', the reservoir communicating through a passageway with the central bushing (Fig. 3). |
