1298236 Treating textiles with brightening agents HENKEL & CIE GmbH 25 Sept 1970 [24 Oct 1969] 45686/70 Heading DIP A textile treatment composition having a content of a synergistic mixture of optical brighteners of the formulae A in which M represents an alkali metal or an ammonium group preferably sodium, n and m represents 1 to 3 and the proportion by weight of the compound (A) to the compound (B) amounts to 3:1 to 1:4, preferably 2:1 to 1:2. The composition has a content of optical brightener of 0.01 to 1% by weight and washing composition of 99 to 99.99% by weight. The washing components of the composition comprises (in weight per cent) (a) 1 to 40% of a compound from the class of anionic, non- ionic and amphoteric detergent substances (b) 10 to 80% of a non-surface-active builder salt with a cleaning intensifying or complexing action, (c) 10 to 50% of a per compound, especially sodium perborate and also its mixtures with stabilisers and activators and (d) 0.1 to 20% of other auxiliary and added substances. The detergent substances may comprise up to 100%, preferably 5 to 70% of compounds of the sulphonate and/or sulphate type, up to 100%, preferably 5 to 40%, of non-ionic compounds of the polyglycol ether type and up to 100%, preferably 10 to 50% of soap. The builder salts may comprise up to 100%, preferably 25 to 95% of alkali metal triphosphates and their mixtures with alkali metal pyrophosphates, up to 100%, preferably 5 to 50% of an alkali metal salt of a complexforming compound from the class of polyphosphonic acids, nitrilotriacetic acid and ethylene diaminotetracetic acid and up to 100%, preferably 5 to 75% of at least one alkali metal silicate, carbonate or borate. Among the other auxiliary and added substances are foam inhibitors, enzymes and greying inhibitors all of which may be present in a quantity up to 5%, preferably from 0.2 to 3%. The composition may comprise 0.01 to 1% of the said optical brightener and 99 to 99.99% of a higher molecular weight ammonium compound having a freshening action, as well as ther mixtures with emulsifiers stabilisers neutral salts and it may be in the form of an aqueous dispersion which comprises (a) 3 to 15% preferably 5 to 10% of ammonium compounds having a freshening action, (b) 0.05 to 5% preferably 0.1 to 1% of a dispersion stabiliser e.g. fatty acid alkylolamides, polyethylene glycols and polyethylene glycol derivatives of higher molecular weight alcohols, amines, fatty acids and alkyl phenols, (c) 0 to 2% by weight of a neutral salt and (d) 0 to 10% preferably 0.5 to 5% of an organic solvent e.g. low molecular weight mono- and polyhydric alcohols, ether alcohols, ketones and alkylolureas. The optical brighteners may be used in textile stiffening and dressing substances, e.g. starch. |
