A reed relay includes a self-supporting operating coil 11 surrounding one or more sealed magnetic reed contact units 1 and located in an aperture 10 in an insulating base-plate 5. The width of the aperture 10 is less than the diameter of the coil which engages the edges of the aperture to be held thereby. Aperture extensions 4 are related to the size of the contact units to retain them in position and terminal pins 6, 7 extend from the base-plate for the contact and coil connections. The base-plate 5 and coil 11 may be wrapped in a sealable or adhesive plastics film or shrunk-on tubing. Portions 16 of the base-plate 5 may engage in slots 17 of a U-shaped cover which also acts as a magnetic shield and flux return path.</p> |
