A process for the production of a multifilament spandex thread comprises extruding a solution of a precursor of the spandex filament into a coagulating bath which is capable of reacting with the precursor to form filaments of the spandex type, and withdrawing the thread upwardly from the bath onto a rotating thread-advancing device 1 by way of a smooth annular surface 3 on a cowl 2 which is mounted at the end of the thread-advancing device from which the thread is advanced and rotatable with the device, so that the thread is twisted, the process being characterised in that the thread 4 is passed around a guide 5 located between the cowl and the threadadvancing device so as to maintain the thread in contact with the surface 3. The guide 5 is preferably a curved rod which extends into the space between the cowl 2 and the reel and also extends substantially 180‹ around the reel 1. The cowl 2 is preferably bevelled at 8 adjacent the outer periphery of the surface 3 and also at 9 adjacent the inner periphery of the surface 3. An additional guide may be located adjacent the smooth surface 3 to pievent the thread being carried over the penpheral surface of the cowl. |
