The ball (6) is mounted in a sleeve (7), which with its lower part (7A) partly encloses the ball and contains an axially displaceable pressure sleeve (17), whose lower edge can be pressed against the ball and whose upper edge can be pressed against a rail (10) on which the camera support plate (11) is mounted. The rail is slidable on a sliding body (9) which is connected to the ball sleeve. At the other end the sleeve has an outwardly protruding edge (7D). The sleeve can be enclosed by an externally threaded clamping grip (8) whose thread engages the thread of the sliding body on the rail.
