PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer type printer that is provided with means for moving an ink ribbon away from a printing paper after the ink ribbon has been peeled from the printing paper thereby exchange of a head, etc. is facilitated. CONSTITUTION:When a head exchange key is pushed down, in response thereto a carriage is moved idly by six figures by a carriage moving motor. Thereupon, a length of the ribbon corresponding to the six figures is taken in by a take-in motor 16-1 and a take-in reel 17-1. Thus, the ink ribbon 14 is peeled off completely from the printing paper 6. Then a pressing shaft 12 relieves the pressed carriage 7 by the operation of its electromagnetic device, and causes the carriage 7 to rotate so that a thermal head 45 and the ink robbon 123 are moved away from a platen 8. In this state, the thermal head can be easily replaced without damaging the ink ribbon, the printing paper and the thermal head. |
