PURPOSE:To obtain a high-quality recording image irrespective of the surface properties of recording paper by providing a means for forming an image holding layer capable of holding an ink image on a substrate, a means for forming an ink image in accordance with image signals, and a means for transferring the ink image in the image holding layer to a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:With the rotation of a drum 1, a holding layer forming roller 3a applies a holding layer forming material to a peripheral surface 2 of the drum 1 to form a holding layer 4a. When the peripheral surface 2 of the drum 1 with the holding layer 4a applied reaches a position opposed to a recording head 5, the recording head 5 is so controlled by image signals as to supply ink 6 onto the holding layer 4a as an ink image 6a. The leading end of recording paper 7 is so controlled as to enter onto a transfer roller 8a when the top end of the ink image 6a reaches a position of the transfer roller 8a by the further rotation of the drum 1. The ink image 6a on the drum 1 is transferred to an opposed recording surface of the recording paper 7 under heat and pressure as a recording image. The part of the drum 1 passing through the transfer roller 8a reaches a position of a cleaning roller 9a by the rotation of the drum 1. The recording paper 7 with the image transferred is discharged by a paper discharge roller 14a. |
