METHOD FOR REMOVING LAYER OF MATERIAL FROM SURFACE OF BONDED AND POLISHED PRODUCT

PURPOSE: To form a smooth flat surface by irradiating a surface with laser beams, transferring the laser beams in the lateral direction to damage the surface in the range of a desired depth and removing a damaged material left on the surface. CONSTITUTION: Laser beams 18 are focused on an upper side main plane 14 and transferred in the lateral direction along on the plane 14, and the whole plane are damaged into a required depth. Some quantity of diamond are sublimated by the damage, the thin layer of damaged diamond is left on the plane mainly as graphite and amorphous carbon. The layer is removed by a lapping finish and a substantially flat surface is formed.
