The device comprises a fixed frame which contains a straight section along which at least one block-shaped processing element is guided, which section runs parallel to and adjoins that part of the strip in which the processing operations are to be carried out. The processing element has a gap which is open on the side facing towards the strip and extends in the plane of this strip, in such a manner that the gap is able to accommodate the strip. The processing element contains tool components for carrying out the processing operations, which components are arranged opposite one another on either side of the gap. The tool components are set in operation by means of actuating means which are connected to the fixed frame and are located in the central part of the straight section. Drive means are used to drive the processing element at a speed which accurately corresponds to that of the strip part which is to be processed. Preferably, a number of processing elements are pivotably connected to one another to form an endless chain which passes through a circular path which contains the said straight section, the circular path lying substantially in the plane of that part of the strip which is to be processed.
