PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording device, a recording medium, and an error detection method capable of detecting an error while suppressing a proportion in which error detection codes occupy in a data string recorded on the recording medium. SOLUTION: Because a combination code CX for recording having a size smaller than that when error detection codes C0 to C7 generated from data sectors D0 to D7 are connected is added to the data string 50, with respect to data sectors (small sectors) D0 to D7, a sufficient capacity capable of recording user data can be secured in a magnetic disk 8.
