A stripper device 30 comprises a pair of end portions 50, 52 connected by a body 54 of elastic material, e.g. polyurethane plastic, and an annular member 80 of spring steel which is deformed when a punch 20 of larger cross-section than the opening in the member is pushed through the opening to cause the member to grip the punch. The member 80 is provided with projections 82 engaging the wall 78 of a recess 60 formed in end portion 50 and with portions 84 the inner ends 86 of which define a circular area within which the punch fits. In a modification (Figs. 6 and 7), the end portions are connected by a compression spring as well as by retainer bolts and the outer periphery of the annular member is elliptical. |
