PURPOSE:To provide lubricity on the surface of a medical tool such as a catheter when it is wetted by swelling the polymer material of the medical tool with a polar solvent, impregnating the polymer material with a hydrophilic polymer compound dissolved in the polar solvent, then treating it in contact with water. CONSTITUTION:In a medical tool such as a catheter and a guide wire having the surface of a polymer material, the polymer material is swollen by a polar solvent, the polymer material is impregnated with a hydrophilic polymer compound dissolved in the polar solvent, then it is treated in contact with water. At least one of polyurethane, polyurethane nylon elastomer, and vinyl chloride urethane copolymer is selected for the polymer material, and at least one of methyl vinyl ether maleic anhydride copolymer, ester compound copolymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone compound, and hydroxy propyl cellulose is selected for the hydrophilic polymer compound. |
