PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting a coated optical fiber ribbon and a lightweight and easy carrying cutter therefor by which the coated optical fiber ribbon is surely cut into uniform length and cutting work is done safely compared to the case with a conventional manually operated or commercially available tool. SOLUTION: In the method for cutting the coated optical fiber ribbon and the cutter thereof, the coated optical fiber ribbon 3 is arranged between a member 1 having a projected part and a member 2 having a recessed part, the projected part 4 of the member 1 having the projected part is fitted into the recessed part 5 of the member 2 having the recessed part, and the coated optical fiber ribbon is cut by imparting a bent out less than critical strength to the coated optical fiber ribbon.
