PURPOSE:To obtain a silica-based dentifrice composition having improved shape- retainability, stringiness and application feeling, by using a water-soluble salt of a carboxymethylcellulose having specific etherification degree and viscosity. CONSTITUTION:A silica-based dentifrice containing preferably 10-50wt% silica powder based on the whole dentifrice composition is compounded with a water- soluble salt of a carboxymethylcellulose (preferably an alkali metal salt, especially sodium salt) having an etherification degree of 0.50-0.85 and a viscosity of <=15cps, preferably <=10cps, especially <=5cps (as 1wt% aqueous solution at 25 deg.C) as a binder in an amount preferably 0.1-1.2wt% based on the whole composition, to obtain the objective composition preferably having a viscosity of 2,000-7,000cps at 25 deg.C. The composition has excellent shape-retainability and low stringiness, is squeezable easily from a tube and gives excellent feeling to the palate. |
