A tubular releasable clasp comprises, in combination, a pair of inner and outer, coaxial, telescopically arranged tubes 12, 14 having one pair of notched, corresponding end portions, said tubes being relatively movable axially, said end portions providing an entry mouth structure 32 constituted of sets of adjacent notches of a pair of notches of each end portion, the notches of each pair being disposed on opposite sides of a central plane of the tubes, said mouth structure being characterized by divergent edges 36, 38 of the notches which divergent edges are adapted for engagement by a cross bar 16 to guide the bar to the centre of the mouth structure, said end portion of the inner tube having at least one pair of said divergent edges, the notches of said end portion of one of the tubes having a pair of straight edges 40 parallel to the common axis of the tubes, the notches of said end portion of the other tube being characterized by opposite parallel edges 44, 46, extending transversely of the common axis of the tubes and being adapted to receive said cross bar when relative movement of the tubes brings them to a given relative bar-receiving position, said tubes having a relative bar-fastening position different from said bar-receiving position, wherein exit from said notches of said other tube is obstructed by said pair of straight edges of said one tube, resilient means biasing said tubes to and normally relative axial movement of the tubes to positions wherein at least some juxtaposed portions of each set of the adjacent notches of the pairs are engageable by said cross bar. In the construction shown the edges 38 are provided by the inner tube and the edges 36 by the outer tube; the straight edges 40 are provided by the outer tube and the parallel edges 44, 46 by the inner tube. In a first modification each tube still provides one pair of the divergent edges but the outer tube has the parallel edges extending transversely of the common axis and the inner tube has the straight edges. In a second modification the divergent edges are provided by the inner tube and this tube also has the parallel edges extending transversely of the common axis; the outer tube has the pair of straight edges parallel to the common axis. In a third modification the inner tube again provides the divergent edges but in this construction the pair of straight edges parallel to the common axis of the tube are also provided by the inner tube each straight edge being one side of a recess which extends parallel to the axis of the tube; the edges extending transversely of the common axis are provided by the outer tube. The bar with which the clasp engages can either be rigid with a structure or can be arranged to float in slots. |
