Compositions for vinyl-asbestos tiles comprise as binder a copolymer of vinyl chloride and a vinyl ester of a saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having a quaternary carbon atom in the alpha-position, and preferably having 9-11 carbons. In addition to asbestos, the compositions may contain a plasticizer, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl sebacate, butyl benzyl phthalate, or tricresyl phosphate optionally with an epoxy plasticizer; a lubricant, e.g. stearic acid or a metal stearate; a stabilizer, e.g. barium-cadmium or calcium-zinc salts, tin mercaptide, methyl- or propyl-melamine, phenyl-melamines or benzoquanamine; and non- fibrous fillers, e.g. calcium or barium carbonate or sulphate, calcium silicate, silica, china clay, kaolin, fullers earth or magnesium silicate optionally with a pigment, e.g. titania, iron oxide or lead chromate. |
