1,229,372. Insulating cables. VEREINIGTE DRAHTUND KABELWERKE A.G. 2 May, 1969 [4 May, 1968], No. 22598/69. Heading H1A. A method of sealing cables longitudinally wherein after the introduction of a foamable material into the core, the core is wrapped with a wide-mesh net of polyethylene, an aluminium foil coated on both sides with a copolymer is applied over the net and an outer sheath consisting of polyethylene is applied over the foil, heat being supplied during the application of the outer sheath to cause the net to be bonded to the copolymer on the foil and the copolymer on the outer side of the aluminium foil to be bonded to its covering sheath. Polyurethane foam may be used as the foamable material and a non-resilient plastics band, e.g. of stretched polyethylene may be provided between the aluminium foil and the outer sheath. The additional plastics band may be omitted if the plastics sheath is applied directly and the foaming material applied subsequently in normal state for small cables and in micro encapsulated form for large cables. |
