1,179,376. Bitumastic laminates. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. 28 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 31077/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B2 and E1] In a process for the manufacture of bituminous layers and plates reinforced with threads of synthetic linear polycondensation products the adhesion between the bitumen and the threads is improved by the use of a composition comprising tall resin. The threads are preferably of a relatively high denier such as 1000 or higher and a filament denier of from 3. The threads may be in the form of fabrics which may be knitted or woven, or bonded or non- bonded fibres. The threads may be twisted or untwisted continuous multi-filament yarns, monofilaments, spun yarns or fibres. The polycondensation product may be polyethylene terephthalate or polyamides obtained from lactams, such as caprolactam, or from diamines and dicarboxylic acids, such as hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid. In an exemplified process 7À25% of bitumen of penetration value 67 was mixed at 170‹Œ 5‹ C. with 45% of road metal, 39À75% of sand and 8% of a mediumgrade filler and compressed into tiles at 150‹ Œ 5‹ C. After cooling tall resin was sprinkled on the tiles and polyethylene terephthalate yarns stretched over the tiles at 2À5 cm. intervals. A top layer of the same asphalt mass was pressed on to the tiles at 145‹ Œ 5‹ C. |
