1389734 Textile-treating aminoplast compositions SANDOZ Ltd 3 May 1972 [6 May 1971 6 July 1971] 20551/72 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] A composition from which is prepared an aqueous textile-treating composition comprises a resin-forming N-methylol compound, an acidreacting salt of a multivalent metal or a mixture of such salts, and sodium and/or potassium sulphate, in proportions permitting the solution obtained by dissolving the mixture to contain 25-200 gpl of methylol compound, 2-30 gpl of acid-reacting salt, and 2-30 gpl of sulphate. The solution of this composition is used to impart crease-resistance to cellulosic textiles. Suitable methylol compounds are derived from ethyl carbamate, ethyleneurea, dihydroxyethyleneurea, dimethoxyethyleneurea, propyleneurea and 4 - methoxy - 5,5 - dimethylpropyleneurea. Suitable acid salts are the nitrates, sulphates, chlorides and acid phosphates of Al, Zn and Mg, and zinc fluoroborate and zirconyl chloride; a 1 : 0À5-5 mixture (by weight) of aluminium nitrate and magnesium chloride is preferred. In Examples solutions are prepared containing 50-150 gpl of dimethylol dihydroxyethyleneurea (DDEU) and Al(NO 3 ) 3 .9H 2 O, alone (20% by weight of the DDEU) or mixed with MgCl 2 . 6H 2 O (10% of the nitrate and 15% of the chloride, relative to the DDEU), and Na 2 SO 4 (anhydrous, 20 wt. per cent of the DDEU) and in some cases 40 gpl of a 40% polyethylene dispersion or 30 gpl of polyvinyl alcohol, a carboxymethylated lauryl hexaglycol ether wetting agent, a softener and H 2 SO 4 . The solutions are used to impregnate cotton poplin or 50/50 or 67/33 polyester/cotton fabrics. |
