<p>A heat exchanger tube of metal with helical corrugations of small pitch and large depth is overlaid with a number of further corrugations of counter-running direction, essentially smaller in depth and at least a fifth as great pitch, pref. a tenth. A process for manufacture passes the smooth tube over a mandrel, with an eccentrically rotating corrugating tool immediately behind the support position to impress the tube transverse to the direction of corrugations of smaller pitch. The turbulence of the fluid surrounding the tube is increased over previous designs, increasing heat transfer.</p> |
