1,258,045. Hydrogenation. JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO. Ltd. 18 Dec., 1969 [22 Dec., 1967], No. 58432/67. Addition to 1,138,601. Heading C5E. [Also in Division C2] Hydrocarbons are hydrogenated in the presence of a liquid medium containing dissolved therein as catalyst a halogen- or pseudohalogen-containing complex formed from a halide or pseudo-halide of a platinum group metal and at least one ligand which is a triphenyl phosphine of which at least one phenyl group has one or more electron-releasing substituents, e.g. methyl or methoxy. A typical catalyst is tris(tri-p-methoxyphenyl) chlororhodium (I). Reaction conditions are those disclosed in Specification 1,138,601. Examples describe the hydrogenation of cyclohexene, hexene-1, and cis- and trans-4-methyl-pentene-2. Phenylacetylene may also be hydrogenated to a mixture of the corresponding alkene and alkane. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,121,643. |
