PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent picture without deteriorating resolution even at a weak light region by providing a binary-coding circuit and a frame memory and displaying a picture while eliminating noise component from a video image signal in picking up the image of a weak video image. CONSTITUTION:Photons from a photon source 0 (image to be measured) are led to a photoelectric plane 1a of an image intensifier (I.I)1 with an image pickup optical system 21 and the image is formed on the photoelectric plane of a vidicon 3 while being multiplied. The electric signal obtained from the vidicon 3 is fed to a binary-coding circuit 7 via a video amplifier circuit 6 and a switching circuit 8, and after it is binary-coded, the result is fed to a frame memory 9a. Furthermore, while the photon from a weak video image is interrupted, the binary-coded signal (noise signal) is fed to a frame memory 9b, the signal is subtracted at a subtractor 9d and a weak video signal without noise is stored in a frame memory 9c. After the read output from the frame memory 9c is D/A-converted, the result is displayed on a monitor 12.
