The invention relates to an airborne noise-damping device for an engine compartment of a motor vehicle which is open towards the carriageway 5 and has an engine cavity hood 2. The airborne noise-damping device is to be of simple design and permit the motor to be ventilated. To this end, it is proposed that reverberant walls 1 which lie laterally across from the engine 6 and are formed so as to absorb airborne noise on their sides adjacent to the engine 6 be arranged on the engine bonnet 2 essentially perpendicularly to the said bonnet. <IMAGE>
