Diaphragm arrangement of a light source for an endoscope, which prevents the spectral characteristic from changing as a result of the amount of the light reduction of this diaphragm arrangement by virtue of arranging a diaphragm (15) in the parallel beam emitted from a source of illumination (12), said diaphragm (15) consisting of a multiplicity of two-dimensionally arranged diaphragm units which have light-transmitting openings (15A) with a small cross-sectional area and light-shading regions (15B) which are constructed as tubular surfaces surrounding the side faces of the openings (15A), and by providing a device which rotates the diaphragm (15) from a position in which the tubular surfaces are parallel to the optical axis into a position in which these surfaces cross the optical axis at a suitable angle. <IMAGE>
