PURPOSE:To reduce the wasteful consumption of ink by driving a pressure means by the non-emission signal of a certain nozzle from a non-emission detection means to perform the driving of the piezoelectric element corresponding to the nozzle to which the non-emission signal is outputted at every predetermined time during the output period of the non-emission signal. CONSTITUTION:The voltage generated across both terminals of each piezoelectric element corresponding to each nozzle is detected during printing by a voltage detection means 30 and it is detected which nozzle is in a non-emitting state by a non-emission detection means 31. A connection means 32 returns a carriage to a home position on the basis of a non-emission signal simultaneously with the stop of printing. A cap main body wherein an atmosphere open valve is opened is mounted on an ink head and a pressure means 23 is operated to subject the piezoelectric element 18 corresponding to the nozzle generating non-emission in such a state that the internal pressure of each ink cartridge is equal to or higher than a set pressure to drive the element 18 by one plural to inject ink from said nozzle. When the non-emission signal is continuously outputted from the non-emission detection means 31, ink is again injected from the nozzle generating non-emission after the elapse of a predetermined time.
