The hearth has an enclosure (4) with an upper wall (44) whose round profile forms a vault outlet, and a smoke evacuation orifice (20) provided in a lateral wall (41) of the enclosure, where the orifice is disposed in extension of the upper wall in a tangential manner such that the upper wall constitutes a deflector for smoke. The orifice is positioned near a base wall (43), and a valve (21) is adapted to completely or partially close the orifice.
