<p>The trick plate of a Raschel machine Figs. 2, 3, 6 (not shown) is mounted so as to be capable of moving in a direction opposite to that of the needles whereby the needle movement is reduced and the speed of knitting increased. For this purpose the trick plate 65 is mounted on an arm 66 adapted to be oscillated by cams 69, 70 in timed relation to the movement of the needles which are controlled by a similar arm 51 operated by cams 47, 47a. Alternatively the needles may be operated by two eccentrics 48, 49 through linkage 73 ... 78 and the trick plate may be similarly controlled. The rise and fall of the needles and plate may be such that at the trick plate may be lowered with the needles at the end of the needle lowering movement to provide a dwell period during which the stitches are drawn and knocked over. The fabric take down rollers may be mounted on the trick plate arm 66 to ensure a constant distance between the rollers and verge edge or a resilient tensioning arm may be provided to impinge on the fabric and maintain a constant tension in the fabric despite the movement of the trick plate.</p> |
