Aqueous dispersions for use in electrodeposition processes containing ungelled thermosetting products made by reacting an amine/aldehyde condensate with a phenol or polyol in the presence of an acid catalyst. The products are electrodeposited on metal substrates. Coating an electrically conducting surface by making it the anode in an electrodeposition bath containing the thermosetting product and, in addition, an alkyd resin or a reaction product of a drying oil acid ester and an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (fumaric acid) or anhydride.
