A shut-off valve comprises a plunger 1 carrying an axially compressible sealing-ring 2 initially elastically compressed between two parts of the plunger 10, 11, and an operating spindle 5 arranged for further movement after abutment of the plunger 1 in closing position against a shoulder 12 of the casing whereby the compression of the sealing ring 2 is increased, and wherein the two parts 10, 11 of the plunger 1 are connected to the operating spindle 5 to be axially fixed with respect to one another, the two parts themselves being elastically deformable. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a compensating piston (20) slides in the sleeve (26) so that on closing (left half of Figure) the sealing ring (28) is additionally biased, and on opening (right half of Figure) a bore 32 admits fluid to the downstream side prior to fully opening the valve. |
