[Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Rubber, leather, textiles, wood, paper, metal or synthetic resins and especially soft polyvinyl chloride may be bonded together or to other materials with an adhesive which comprises a solution in an organic solvent of a hydroxy polyurethane prepared by reacting a diisocyanate with (a) a polyester of M.W. 600 to 3000 and being a polyester of carbonic acid and an aliphatic diol or of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic diol, and (b) a polyester of M.W. less than 600 and being a polyester of a benzene dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic diol. In the examples strips of soft polyvinyl chloride are adhered together by painting the solution on to the strips, allowing the adhesive to dry, activating it at 80 to 100‹ C. and combining the strips by continuous contact pressure. A typical adhesive solution comprises a solution in methyl ethyl ketone of a polyurethane prepared by reacting 2,4-and 2,6-toluylene diisocyanate with a polyester of adipic acid and butane-1,4-diol and a polyester of phthalic acid and ethylene glycol. |
