<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical data carrier comprising a carrier element for discriminating a surgical plate to fix a medical implant, especially a bone or bone fragment, and a connector with a receptive part into which at least part of the implant is inserted. <P>SOLUTION: The connector 42 is moved from a connected position to a released position so that the surgical data carrier 14 of this kind with improved operability can be used. When the connector is at the connected position, the implant is held inside the receptive part 56. When the connector is at the released position, the data carrier 14 can be detached from the implant without applying any force to the implant.
