A polymerisation autoclave, esp. for large-scale suspension and mass polymerisation, comprises a vertical axis cylinder (pref. with L/D ratio 1/1-2.1/1), with a bottom-driven multi-bladed (esp. 3-bladed) agitator passing through the bottom and two identical, rotating guide plates with their shafts passing through the side wall in the upper third of the cylindrical part. - These two are at the same height, opposite each other. The rotating guide plates are pref. >=50 mm. from the wall, curved at their outer edges to the same, or a sharper, curvature.
