A peripheral groove 19 in the outside surface of the blade is engaged by an inwardly extending flange 18 on a ring member 16 which is split so that it can be opened out to engage the flange with the groove. The member 16 is attached, by screws 21, 22 passing through lugs 23 formed on the member 16 at each side of the split, to the base 20 of a hollow handle 11. The base 14 of the blade 13 has axially projecting 'gear teeth 24 meshing with a drive gear 25 on a shaft 26 located within the handle 11 and driven, through a flexible shaft, by a motor. Lubricating means may be provided. In use the portion of the blade remote from the handle is pressed against the work and the knife drawn along the work to sever a strip or slice which passes through the blade and its support. Means 31 are provided for sharpening the blade. |
