1,230,425. Laminate. GLAVERBEL. 16 Sept., 1968 [18 Sept., 1967], No. 43966/68. Heading B5N. A laminate is made by applying a light-transmitting and radiant heat reflecting coating, e.g. Au, Ag, SnO 2 , TiO 2 to a first light transmitting plastics sheet and securing the coated sheet to a glass sheet by means of a second light transmitting plastics sheet, the coated face of the plastics sheet facing the glass. The sheet of glass may be curved. The first plastics sheet material is preferably sufficiently flexible to be coiled so that it can be continuously drawn through a coating installation (e.g. a vapour deposition chamber) but it may also be rigid and if required be bent and secured to a sheet of glass of the same shape. Suitable first plastics sheets are made of a polyester, polyarylester, polyamide, an ionomer resin, polytrifluorochloroethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, a fluorohalocarbon polymer or cellulose triacetate. The second plastics sheet may be made of regenerated cellulose, polyvinyl butyral or a vinylidene chloride-vinylchloride copolymer. In the embodiments, the following assemblies are laminated by heat and pressure, (1) glass 6, polyvinyl butyral 10, SnO 2 coating 9 on a flexible sheet of PTFE 8 and polymethymethacrylate 7, (2) glass 11, polyvinylbutyral 13, diallyl isophthalate 15 coated on both faces 16, 17 with gold-polyvinyl butyral 14 and glass 12 and (3) glass 18, polyvinylbutyral 20, fluorohalocarbon polymer 22 coated with gold on its convex face 23, polyvinyl butyral 21 and glass 19.
|
