Interface position determining process involves arranging a set of sensors (20) on both sides of an interface (12) along a rectilinear direction to measure a local characteristic of one of two mediums, e.g. water (14) and sediment (16), at the level of each sensor, to determine in which medium the sensor is located and to deduce the position of the interface. A current source and voltage electrodes are in each sensor. The interface is between two adjacent sensors identifying different mediums. Independent claims are also included for: (A) A device for determining the position of an interface between two mediums; and (B) Use of the device of determining the position of the interface.
