PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a urea resin composition which has better biodegradability and is improved in mechanical strength and other properties by compounding a product of the reaction of urea with formaldehyde, with a cellulosic material and anα-amino acid. SOLUTION: The composition comprises (A) a product of the reaction of urea with formaldehyde, (B) a cellulosic material, and (C) anα-amino acid. The amount of the component (B) is preferably 20-80 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. component (A), and that of the component (C) is preferably 1-30 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. in total of the components (A) and (B). The component (A) is preferably obtained by reacting urea with formaldehyde in a molar ratio of 1/(1 to 1.5). In spite of being thermosetting, the composition gives a cured resin which is biodegradable at a high rate and has properties sufficient for practical use.
