PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to adjust image display brightness according to ambient luminosity without incorporating a photo-sensor in a head-up display device, properly adjust the image display brightness arbitrarily set the direction and location of the photo-sensor according to the shape and status of the fitting place, and improve mass-productivity of the head-up display device. SOLUTION: The head-up display device 1 connected with an output device 2 of a video signal through a cable 3 having flexibility comprises a display unit emitting image display light corresponding to the video signal, and a combiner 12 which can form an image in front and can also transmit light from the front by changing the light path from the front. A sensing device 21 connected with a midway part of the cable 3 adjusts a brightness signal component of this video signal according to a light quantity of the ambient light detected by an optical sensor 21a. The display brightness of this image is adjusted according to the light quantity of the ambient light.
