PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly and efficiently execute the optically fixing. SOLUTION: A carriage 37 is provided to this color thermal printer being movable in a width direction of a color thermal recording paper 16. A thermal head 28 is attached to the carriage 37. Emission openings 41, 42 are provided to front and rear sides of the thermal head 28 in the moving direction of the carriage 37. Optical fixing devices 24, 26 are provided along moving passage of the carriage 37. A light of a yellow fixing lamp 51 is guided to the emission opening 41 by a reflection plate 38. A light of a magenta fixing lamp 52 is guided to the emission opening 42 by a reflection plate 39. The carriage 37 is reciprocated and the thermally recording is performed by the thermal head 28 and the optically fixing is executed by the lights via the emission openings 41, 42. After one line of color recording is performed, the recording paper 16 is intermittently fed by one line by means of a pair of feeding rollers 18, 19. The illuminance of each of the fixing lamps 51, 52 is controlled based on illuminance signals from illuminance sensors 43, 44 so that an optical quantity for fixing is made constant with respect to the moving direction of the carriage 37.
