PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably detect a moving object even when the contrast of an image area generated at the time of normalizing correlation is low. SOLUTION: This device consists of a TV camera 1, which picks up images of a moving object 2 successively at intervals of sampling time Δt, an A/D converter 3, which converts the output signal of the TV camera 1 into digital image data, and image storage unit 4, which stores the digital image data obtained by the A/D converter 3, a standard deviation calculator 8, which divides the digital image data obtained by the A/D converter 3 into lattice- shaped image areas and calculates the standard deviations of the respective image areas, a normalization correlator 7, which calculates a normalizing correlation coefficient from two image data having a difference of sampling time Δt as to image areas larger than a previously set threshold value among the standard deviations obtained by the standard deviation calculator 8, and a moving body detector 6, which extracts the area where the moving object 2 is present according to the value of the normalizing correlation coefficient obtained by the normalizing correlator 7. |
