PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vehicle body rear structure capable of winding up (down) a hook when a lift gate is opened upward, and improving work efficiency by being auxiliarly used for the loading/unloading work of baggage to/from a baggage compartment. SOLUTION: The vehicle body rear structure comprises the lift gate 201 supported at a vehicle body rear surface opening so as to vertically rotate, a rear bumper 3, and the baggage compartment 1 extending from the vehicle body rear surface opening to a vehicle body front side. A winch mechanism having a towing mechanism 303 winding up a wire 302 to which the hook 301 is coupled by the rotating force of an electric motor is provided at a rear part of the baggage compartment. On a vehicle inside panel 201a, a supporting portion 304 suspending the hook by using the rear end of the lift gate opened upward as a fulcrum, and an opening holding means 305 holding the lift gate at a position opened upward are provided.
