The present invention relates to a method for making a pitch fiber infusible comprising the following steps: modifying air by halogen; and processing a pitch fiber with the air modified by the halogen, and a method for fabricating a carbon fiber comprising the following steps: making a pitch fiber infusible according to the method of making the pitch fiber infusible; and thermally processing the infusible pitch fiber at 1,000 to 1,350°C in an inert atmosphere. According to the present invention, in a process of making a polymer pitch fiber infusible, the process can be effectively completed in a short time at a relatively lower temperature. In addition, due to an extended selection range of a molecular weight of a starting material, a carbon fiber can be quickly and easily fabricated through the process of making the starting material with a low molecular weight infusible. |
