1,106,224. Carbon dioxide generator. G. M. RIEDL; E. M. REYNER and S. R. FREEDE. 18 March, 1965 [19 March, 1964], No. 11436/65. Heading B1X. [Also in Division F1] A pressurized dispensing container (see Division Fl) encloses a chemical gas generator which is responsive to decreasing pressure in the container to generate gas. In Fig. 1, gas generator 42 is mounted on an insulating layer 13 within a flexible bag 40, and comprises a chamber 44, e.g. for aqueous or anhydrous citric acid, connected by either pipe 46 having a check valve 50, or a capillary tube. (Fig. 4, n o t shown), to a chamber 54, e.g. for sodium bicarbonate. When the container pressure falls, acid rises from chamber 44 to chamber 54. producing CO 2 which inflates bag 40 to maintain the pressure in the container. Valve 50 prevents flow of acid when the container is inverted. In Fig. 3, a coiled or folded flexible bag 140 has its inner coils lined with sodium bicarbonate, and its outer coils filled with acid via a valve 143. Fall in container pressure causes expansion of the bag to expose the bicarbonate to the acid, thereby inflating the bag with CO 2 . The bag may be of plastics, metal foil or treated fabric. Other examples of acid are tartaric, hydrochloric and sulphuric. |
