1,117,742. Moving-bed air-filter. ATMOSPHERIC CONTROL Ltd. 24 Nov., 1965 [4 Dec., 1964], No. 49532/64. Heading B1T. Air is drawn by fan 18 from inlet duct 6 through a downwardly moving bed of cake, breeze, sawdust, carbon, cork or mixtures thereof whose packing density is variable. As shown, the bed flows from hopper 19 between arcuate openwork surfaces presented by concentric cylinders 7, 8, and density is varied by adjusting relative rotary speeds of feed rotor 22 and inner cylinder 8, which carries vanes 14 dividing the bed into sections. Alternatively, cylinder 8 may be fixed and density is adjusted by varying speeds of feed rotor 22 and discharge rotor 23. Interior baffle 15 diverts filtered air out of the open ends of cylinder 8 (Fig. 2, not shown) to fan 18. Bars 9A, forming perforate part 7A of cylinder 7, may be adjustable in inclination. Polluted filter medium may be burnt or cleaned and returned to hopper 20. |
