Sulpholane compounds of the Formula I wherein each of R 1-6 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, are obtained by reacting conjugated dienes, with sulphur dioxide in the presence of sterically hindered phenols and phenyl-#-naphthylamine, and optionally less than 0À04% by weight of unhindered phenols, removing unconverted sulphur dioxide from the reaction mixture and hydrogenating the sulpholenes so obtained in the presence of hydrogenation catalysts. |
