A closure member 3 for an aperture 4 in a wall I of a container, e.g. for refrigerated cargo, comprises a spindle 7 connected to a fixture, e.g. a wall 2, within and spaced from the wall 1 of the container and in registry with the aperture in the wall so as to project from the fixture in an outward direction to lie substantially in the centre of the aperture, a closure member 10 slidably mounted on the spindle 7, biasing means, e.g. a spring 11, which biases the closure member 3 to a first position in which the aperture 4 is open, means permitting the closure member to be moved against the bias of the biasing means from the first position to a second position in which the aperture is closed, and securing means associated with the closure member and spindle whereby the closure member may be secured in the second position. As shown, the spindle 7 is screwed into a baseplate 5 which is secured by screws 6 to the rear wall 2 of an air duct, the closure 3, in the form of a circular plate 12 with an annular sealing gasket 15 made e.g. of foam rubber, being secured to an annular plate 16a which carries a cylindrical sleeve 16 having an internal diameter slightly larger than the external diameter of a cam head 9 secured adjacent the outer end of the spindle 7. When the closure 3 is moved towards its closing position by pulling on a pair of rods 18 secured to the sleeve 16, inwardly projecting ends 20 of the rods 18 pass through an aligned pair of axially extending-slots 27 in the cam head 9 and when the closure element is rotated clockwise, ride up oppositely inclined semicircular cam surfaces 25, 26. The rod ends 20 engage in the appropriate pair of notches 28, in the cam surfaces, when the closure 3 tightly seals the opening 4. Apertures 17 in the sleeve 16 register with diametral passages 20 at the end of the spindle 7 for fitment of a customs seal. |
