1316817 Feeding webs R SATZINGER 28 May 1970 25615/70 Heading B8R [Also in Division D1] A web unreeling apparatus of the kind comprising a turntable 4 rotatable about a vertical axis and on which the material to be unwound is received, is characterized by a guide pulley 17 rotatable about a horizontal axis and around which the material 16 passes as it is unwound, a pivotally mounted control lever 18 that carries the pulley 17, and spring means 20 that biases the control lever 18 to an inactive setting (as shown in full lines), the turntable 4 being rotatable in the unwinding direction by a pawl and ratchet wheel mechanism, thus pawl and ratchet wheel being actuated by a compressed air cylinder (25), Fig. 2, not shown, controlled by the lever 18. When the tension in the material 16 causes the lever 18 to move away from its inactive setting, the control lever 18 opens a valve 24 to cause the air cylinder (25) to be actuated and so turn the turntable via the pawl and ratchet mechanism. As soon as the turntable commences to turn the falling tension in the material being unwound permits the lever 18 to move back to its inactive setting. A brake may be provided for the turntable, the brake being actuable by movement of the control lever 18 back to its inoperative position. |
